ABS Indicator Circuit Troubleshooting

ABS indicator does not come on


1.Turn the ignition switch OFF then ON (II) again.

Does the brake system indicator come on?


YES - Go to 2.


NO - Repair open in the indicator power source circuit.n

  • Blown No. 16 (7.5A) fuse.
  • Open in the wire between the No. 16 (7.5A) fuse and gauge assembly.
  • Open circuit inside the fuse box.


2.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

3.Disconnect the ABS control unit 25P connector.

4.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

Does the ABS indicator come on?


YES - Check for loose terminals in the ABS control unit 25P connector. If necessary, substitute a known-good  ABS modulator-control unit, and recheck.n


NO - Go to 5.


5.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

6.Remove the gauge assembly.

7.Disconnect the gauge assembly connector C (30P).

8.Check for continuity between the gauge assembly connector C (30P) terminal No. 28 and body ground.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire between the gauge assembly and the ABS control unit.n


NO - Go to 9.


9.Connect the gauge assembly connector C (30P), and disconnect the gauge assembly connector A (20P).

10.Check for continuity between the gauge assembly connector A (20P) terminal No. 19 and body ground.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Check for loose terminals in the gauge assembly connectors. If the connector is OK, replace the gauge assembly.n


NO - Repair open in the wire between the gauge assembly and body ground (G502).n

ABS indicator does not go off


1.Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2.Disconnect the ABS control unit 25P connector.

3.Reconnect the battery cable.

4.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

5.Measure the voltage between the ABS control unit 25P connector terminal No. 4 and body ground.

 

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Go to 6.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the No. 16 (7.5A) fuse and the ABS control unit.n


6.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

7.Check for continuity between the ABS control unit 25P connector terminal No. 8 and body ground.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 8.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the ABS control unit and body ground (G202).n


8.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

9.Connect ABS control unit 25P connector terminal No. 7 and body ground with a jumper wire.

 

Does the ABS indicator go off?


YES - Check for loose terminals in the ABS control unit 25P connector. If necessary, substitute a known-good  ABS modulator-control unit, and recheck.n


NO - Go to 10.

10.Remove the jumper wire from the ABS control unit 25P connector.

11.Remove the gauge assembly.

12.Connect the gauge assembly connector C (30P) terminal No. 28 and body ground.

 

Does the ABS indicator go off?


YES - Repair open in the wire between the gauge assembly and the ABS control unit.n


NO - Check for loose terminals in the gauge assembly connectors. If the connectors are OK, replace the gauge assembly.n
