P1351 (15-5): | No. 1/No. 4 Cylinder Front Ignition Coil Circuit Malfunction |
P1353 (15-7): | No. 2/No. 3 Cylinder Front Ignition Coil Circuit Malfunction |
1. | Reset the ECM/PCM. |
2. | Replace the ignition coils of the cylinders that correspond to the indicated DTC with the ignition coils of the other cylinders Example: If the DTC is shown, replace the front side ignition coils of the No. 1/No. 4 cylinders with the ignition coils of the No. 2/No. 3 cylinders. Perform the same procedure on the rear side. |
3. | Start the engine, and check the DTC with the scan tool. Is DTC P1351 or P1353 indicated? YES - Go to 4. NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose wires at the ignition coils and at the ECM/ PCM.n |
4. | Check the DTC again. Check whether another DTC is shown indicating that the ignition primary circuit is faulty but it is different from the DTC shown before? YES - Replace either ignition coil of the two cylinders that are indicated with the DTC with the one of the original cylinder. Then, perform the symptom reproduction test shown above. Replace the ignition coil that has been shown faulty with the DTC. NO - Go to 5. |
5. | Turn the ignition switch OFF. |
6. | Disconnect the ignition coil 3P connector from the problem cylinder. |
7. | Check for continuity between the ignition coil 3P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground (see table).
Is there continuity? YES - Go to 8. NO - Repair open in the wire between the ignition coil and G101.n |
8. | Disconnect the ECM/PCM connectors A (31P) and B (24P). |
9. | Check for continuity between body ground and the appropriate ECM/PCM connector terminal (see table).
Is there continuity? YES - Repair short in the wire between the ECM/ PCM and the ignition coil.n NO - Go to 10. |
10. | Connect the appropriate ignition coil 3P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground with a jumper wire (see table).
|
11. | Check for continuity between body ground and the appropriate ECM/PCM connector terminal (see table).
Is there continuity? YES - Update the ECM/PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM/PCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM/PCM, replace the original ECM/PCM.n NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM/ PCM and the ignition coil.n |
