DTC Troubleshooting: P2122 (37)

DTC P2122:  APP sensor A Circuit Low Voltage


1.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2.Do the DTC CLEAR in the CLEAR MENU with the HDS.

3.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

4.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

5.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Are DTC P0107, P0122, P0222, and P2122 indicated at the same time?


YES - Go to 23.


NO - Go to 6.


6.Open the throttle to full position several times.

7.Check the APP SENSOR-A in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

Is there about 0 %, or 0.62 V or less when the throttle is fully opened?


YES - Go to 8.


NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the APP sensor A and the ECM.n


8.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

9.Disconnect the APP sensor 6P connector.

10.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

11.At the wire harness side, measure voltage between the APP sensor 6P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 3.

 

Is there about 5 V?


YES - Go to 12.


NO - Go to 19.


12.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

13.At the APP sensor side, measure resistance between the APP sensor 6P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 14.


NO - Go to 31.

14.At the APP sensor side, measure resistance between the APP sensor 6P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3.

 

Is there about 0 W?


YES - Go to 31.


NO - Go to 15.


15.Connect the ECM test harness and the test pin box to the wire harness only, not to the ECM.

16.Check for continuity between test pin box terminal No.63 and body ground.

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short in the wire between the ECM connector No. 3 terminal No. 34 (test pin box terminal No. 63) and the APP sensor A, then go to 33.


NO - Go to 17.

17.Connect the APP sensor 6P connector terminal No. 1 to body gorund with a jumper wire.

 

18.Check for continuity between test pin box terminal No. 63 and body ground.

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 38.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM connector No. 3 terminal No. 34 (test pin box terminal No. 63) and the APP sensor A, then go to 33.


19.Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait 10 seconds.

20.Connect the ECM test harness and the test pin box between the ECM and connector..

21.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

22.Measure voltage between test pin box terminals No. 33 and No. 58.

Is there about 5 V?


YES - Repair open in the wire between the ECM connector No. 3 terminal No. 4 (test pin box terminal No. 33) and the APP sensor A, then go to 33.


NO - Go to 38.

23.Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait 10 seconds.

24.Connect the ECM test harness and the test pin box to the wire harness only, not to the ECM.

25.Disconnect the connectors from the these sensors:
  • MAP sensor
  • Throttle body
  • APP sensor

26.Check for continuity between body ground and the test pin box terminals No. 33 and No. 46 individually.

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short in the wire between the ECM connector No. 3 terminal No. 4 or No. 17 (test pin box terminal No. 33 or No. 46) and the each sensor, then go to 33.


NO - Go to 27.


27.Connect the ECM test harness to the ECM.

28.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

29.Measure voltage between test pin box terminal No. 46 and body ground.

Is there about 5 V?


YES - Go to 30.


NO - Go to 38.


30.Continue to monitor voltage at the test pin box terminals No. 46 while reconnecting the following sensors, one at a time.
  • MAP sensor
  • Thottle body
  • APP sensor

Did the voltage drop to about 0 V?


YES - Replace the sensor that caused the voltage to drop, then go to 33.


NO - Go to 38.

31.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

32.Replace the APP sensor.

33.Reconnect all connectors.

34.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

35.Do the ECM RESET in the CLEAR MENU with the HDS.

36.Do the ETCS learn procedure.

37.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P2122 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the APP sensor A and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC troubleshooting.


NO - Troubleshooting is complete.n


38.Substitute a known-good ECM.

39.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P2122 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the APP sensor A and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC troubleshooting.


NO - Replace the original ECM.
