Dashboard Removal/Installation

Dashboard Removal/Installation

For some models: SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before performing repairs or service.

NOTE:

1.If equipped with airbags, disconnect the negative cable from the battery, and wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.

2.Remove these items:

3.Remove the rear heater upper duct (A). LHD is shown, RHD is symmetrical.

-1 Detach the clip.
-2 Lift the rear of the duct upward, then remove it.

4.Disconnect the engine compartment wire harness connectors (A), floor wire harness connectors (B), interior wire harness connector (C), door wire harness connector (D), and EPS subwire harness connector (E) from the under-dash fuse/relay box (F).

6.Disconnect the parking brake switch connector (A), shift lock solenoid connector (B) (CVT models), fuel pump connector (C), SRS control unit connector (D), secondary heated oxygen sensor connector (E), and yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor connector (F) (VSA models). Using a Torx T30 bit, remove the ground bolt (G).

Middle portion (passenger's side)

7.In the inner glove box opening, disconnect the recirculation control cable (A) (without A/C), mode control cable (B) (without A/C), and heater subharness connectors (C). From under the dashboard, disconnect the air mix control cable (D) (without A/C):

  • Take care not to bend any cables.
  • LHD is shown; RHD is symmetrical.

Passenger's side

8.From under the dash, disconnect the ECM/PCM connector (A), engine wire harness connector (B), passenger's door wire harness connector (C), front SRS sensor subwire harness connectors (D), inertia switch connector (E) (for some models), heater subharness connectors (F) (with A/C), and antenna lead (G).

9.Detach all of the harness and connector clips.

10.Remove the bolts, then remove the brake pedal support member (A). LHD is shown; RHD is symmetrical.

11.Remove the special bolts (A) from outside the passenger's door. LHD is shown; RHD is symmetrical:

-1 Remove the caps (B).
-2 Loosen the special bolt until its threads have come off the sleeve (C). The bolt will be screwed into the inside female screw of the adjusting nut (D) by loosening the bolt. Because of the thread locks on the thread of the bolt, the bolt and adjusting nut will be fixed.
-3 Loosen the bolt again to screw the outside left-hand male screw of the adjusting nut into the sleeve fully, then the gap (E) will be between the nut and body.
-4 Remove the bolt. But the forward bolt is not able to remove from the body because the passenger's door will interfere.

12.If the adjusting nut (A) didn't be screwed into the sleeve fully while removing the special bolts, screw its left-hand male screw into the sleeve with 21 mm open-end wrench:

  • In this case, this bolt should be replaced with new one because its thread locks were worn out.
  • LHD is shown; RHD is symmetrical except the direction of screwing.

13.From outside the driver's door, remove the caps (A), then remove the bolts (B, C). But the forward B Bolt is not able to remove from the body because the driver's door will interfere. LHD is shown; RHD is symmetrical.

14.Open the driver's and passenger's door until one-half position, then pull both remaining forward bolts (A) outward. LHD is shown; RHD is symmetrical.

15.Lift up on the dashboard (B) to release it from the guide pins (C).

16.Have an assistant holding the dashboard apart from the body, open one side door fully. Carefully remove the dashboard through the front door opening. Take care not to scratch the body with the adjusting nuts on passenger's side.

17.Install the dashboard in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

  • Make sure the dashboard fits onto the guide pins correctly.
  • Before tightening the bolts, make sure each wire harness is not pinched.
  • Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and the antenna lead and each cable are connected properly.
  • Adjust the recirculation control cable, mode control cable, and air mix control cable.
  • If equipped with airbag, reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
  • If you screwed the adjusting nut with an open end wrench to remove the dashboard, because any of the special bolts came off the adjusting nut before having screwed the adjusting nut into the sleeve fully, replace the special bolt as new one.
  • Before reinstalling the dashboard, screw all of the adjusting nuts into the sleeves fully by hand.
  • After setting the dashboard on the body, reinstall all of the mounting bolts to the dashboard, then tighten the center bracket and passenger's side bracket with these tightening torque, then torque the special bolt (A) on passenger's side.

Special bolt tightening on passenger's side
  • First screw the special bolt (A) into the adjusting nut (B), then they will be fixed because of the thread lock on the bolt. Go on tightening the bolt with the adjusting nut, the outside left-hand mail screw of the nut is loosen from the sleeve (C) until the nut contacts the inside face of the body. Then tighten the bolts again with its tightening torque fully.
  • If the adjusting nut doesn't contact the body while tightening the special bolt fully, the nut shouldn't be loosen with an open-end wrench. In this case, replace this special bolt as new one because it is wrong.
