1. | Remove the steering wheel. |
2. | Check for continuity between cable reel subharness 13P connector terminals No. 7 and No. 9 while pressing steering shift - (minus) switch and when the switch is released.
Is there continuity while pressing steering shift - (minus) switch and no continuity when the switch released? YES - Go to 5. NO - Go to 3. |
3. | Disconnect steering shift - (minus) switch connector. |
4. | Check for continuity between steering shift - (minus) switch connector terminals while pressing the switch and when the switch is released.
Is there continuity while pressing the switch and no continuity when the switch released? YES - Replace the cable reel subharness.n |
5. | Remove the cable reel. |
6. | Check for continuity cable reel 13P connector terminal No. 9 and body ground.
Is there continuity? YES - Go to 7. NO - Repair open in the wire between cable reel 13P connector terminal No. 9 and ground (G402), or repair poor ground (G402).n |
7. | Check for continuity between cable reel 13P connector terminal No. 7 and body ground.
Is there continuity? YES - Repair short to ground in the wire between cable reel 13P connector terminal No. 7 and PCM connector terminal B19.n NO - Go to 8. |
8. | Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and shift to the D or S position. |
9. | Measure the voltage between cable reel 13P connector terminals No. 7 and No. 9.
Is there about 5 V? YES - Replace the cable reel.n NO - Go to 10. |
10. | Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminal B19 and body ground.
Is there about 5 V? YES - Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal B19 and cable reel 13P connector.n NO - Check for loose or poor connections at PCM connector terminal B19. If the connection is OK, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck.n |
