DTC Troubleshooting: 27

DTC 27:  Steering Angle Sensor


1.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

2.Disconnect the VSA control unit 46P connector and steering angle sensor 5P connector.

3.Check for continuity between the VSA control unit 46P connector terminal No. 33, No. 35 and steering angle sensor 5P connector terminal No. 5, No. 1 individually.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 4.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and steering angle sensor.n

4.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

5.Measure the voltage between body ground and the VSA control unit 46P connector terminal No. 33, No. 35 individually.

 

Is there 1 V or more?


YES - Repair short to power in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and steering angle sensor.n


NO - Go to 6.

6.Check for continuity between the VSA control unit 46P connector terminal No. 2, No. 25, No. 26 and steering angle sensor 5P connector terminal No. 2, No. 4, No. 3 individually.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and steering angle sensor.n


NO - Go to 7.

7.Measure the voltage between body ground and the VSA control unit 46P connector terminal No. 2, No. 25 and No. 26 individually.

 

Is there 1 V or more?


YES - Repair short to power in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and steering angle sensor.n


NO - Go to 8.

8.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

9.Check for continuity between body ground and the VSA control unit 46P connector terminals No. 2, No. 25, No. 26, No. 33, and No. 35 individually.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short to the body ground in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and steering angle sensor.n


NO - Go to 10.

10.Substitute a known-good steering angle sensor.

11.Reconnect all of disconnected connectors.

12.Clear the DTCs using the HDS.

13.Turn the ignition switch OFF, then turn it ON (II).

14.Test-drive the vehicle around a number of corners.

15.Verify the DTC.

Is DTC 27 indicated?


YES - Check for loose connector terminals and repair if necessary. Replace the VSA modulator-control unit.n


NO - Replace the original steering angle sensor.n
